Calming

An experiment was conducted with pictures of cute baby animals. According to psychological scientists at Hiroshima University in Japan, these images can have powerful effects on attention and concentration,

The team conducted three experiments and assessed that images of baby animals may help improve performance on detail-oriented tasks that require concentration. This study shows that viewing cute things improves performance in tasks that require attention to detail, focus, and carefulness.

Research has shown that people are predisposed to respond to cute baby-like features–a large head, a high protruding forehead, and large eyes—known as the “baby schema.” Baby animals also have baby schema traits, which helps explain why we think puppies and kittens are cuter than older dogs and cats.

The baby schema can activate innate processes in humans, like smiling and having a positive attitude.  There is still more research needed, but they suspect that these cute images may also have an impact on attention and perception.
