Five ways to create space for yourself

1.  Start your day with a drink!

To clarify, not booze! Carve out time each morning to prepare a coffee or tea instead of buying it.  Take note of the environment and your own senses.  Notice the sounds in the room, the aroma of coffee, the warmth of the mug in your hand, the first taste, and the warmth as the drink is swallowed. Multi-tasking not allowed, just focus on you and your drink and the sensations. Use your 5 senses to train your mind to be present and enjoy the drink.

2.  Pay attention to the present.  Think about a door being the opening of a new environment and the closing of an old one.

3. Resist rumination or shoulda, woulda, coulda.  Keep the big picture in mind, make choices about the way each day will be handled, focusing on the present.  Create space in between appointments.  Take a long hard look at what is working and what isn't.

4. Make conscious and healthy food choices that powers and fuels your body, mind, and heart. when eating food, concentrate on your senses and each taste.

5.  Walk it off.  Walk and just walk, no multi-tasking.  The physical act of walking can interrupt rumination and anxiety.  Redirect your attention to your senses, your feet, your view, and the air.
